GESSEL for Climate

GESSEL for Climate is our green initiative. Progressive climate change threatens our planet and has a real impact on business. In our view, everyone can, and should, engage in climate protection as they know best – for us, the natural choice is legal action. 

That is why we support entrepreneurs in particular in green projects that make a significant contribution to improving the conditions in which we live. We understand that green transformation and renewable energy sources are a priority direction of change for every business sector. We specialize in renewable energy transactions, assisting clients at the transactional level, in terms of entity financing and regulation. We also advise companies in the area of capital markets, including assisting with the issuance of “green” financial instruments.

A significant project in the Gessel for Climate area is climate lawsuits. Together with the Client Earth Foundation – Lawyers for the Earth, we represent five Polish citizens who have decided to sue the Polish State Treasury for inaction on the climate crisis. In these precedent-setting cases, GESSEL seeks to establish the defendant’s liability for any consequences of violations of personal rights in the form of, among other things, the right to enjoy the value of the natural environment (including the right to live in stable and safe climate conditions). These are the first such lawsuits in Poland, and information about them resonated in the Polish and foreign media. Thanks to this, we have triggered a public debate, and we will not stop fighting to keep this topic in the headlines until something changes. 

We believe that the greater the public’s awareness of the climate crisis, the greater the chance of stopping it. That’s why we also pursue a mission to inform, writing about legal changes and current developments in climate, renewable energy and energy on our communication channels.
