Dispute Resolution in M&A Transactions: Tactics, Challenges, Defences – International conference coordinated by GESSEL

On 13-14 May 2010, Warsaw will be the venue of the international conference entitled Dispute Resolution in M&A Transactions: Tactics, Challenges, Defences, the first event of this type and scale to be held in Poland. Dr Beata Gessel-Kalinowska vel Kalisz, managing partner of GESSEL, is the coordinator and chairperson of the event, assisted in these capacities by Yulia Andreevna of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. Beata Gessel will also chair the debate on “Disputes Concerning Representations and Warranties”. The partner institutions helping to bring this undertaking to fruition are the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), ICC Polska, Arbitralwomen, and the American Bar Association; Radosław Sikorski, Foreign Minister of Poland, has extended his honorary patronage over the conference.

The conference is organised as part of the broader project “Promotion of Amicable Methods for Resolving Commercial Conflicts” pursued by the Arbitration Court of the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan and coordinated by Beata Gessel in her capacity as arbitrator and deputy chair of this tribunal. This project, co-financed by the European Union via the European Social Fund, has the objective of propagating knowledge about the workings of arbitration proceedings and their application in the business sphere. In a timeframe spanning November 2009 and May 2011, it will involve thematic conferences, seminars, and training events for businesspeople, lawyers, and aspiring arbitrators; in this latter connection, the project also aims to promote female lawyers and academics who hope to become involved in arbitration practice.
