GESSEL advises Famicord on an acquisition in Switzerland

GESSEL provided legal support in the transaction for acquisition by Famicord AG of Zurich, a subsidiary of Polski Bank Komórek Macierzystych S.A., of a 100% stake in the Swiss company Biocell Lugano SA.

Polski Bank Komórek Macierzystych (PBKM) is the largest stem cell bank in Poland. FamiCord, established by PBKM, is an international group of banks storing stem cells derived from umbilical blood, the second-largest in Europe in terms of the number of samples stored.

By way of the present acquisition of Biocell Lugano, launched in 2017, the PBKM S.A. group has purchased an operational laboratory which, as one of the few entities in Switzerland, is licensed to isolate and duplicate MSC cells and to source them from placentas, chorions and amniotic fluid. In this way, PBKM has gained the capacity to offer new services to customers in other countries.
