GESSEL supports the Lewiatan Arbitration Moot

For the seventh time now, GESSEL is involved in preparation of the Lewiatan Arbitration Moot, the largest moot competition for trainee attorneys and legal advisors in Poland.

On 7 June 2018, GESSEL as well as seven other Warsaw law firms will open their doors to the 32 teams which qualified for the oral stage of the competition.

The teams selected during this initial phase will be invited to compete at the final session, which will be held on 8 June at the Warsaw seat of the Lewiatan Arbitration Court at ul. Z. Cybulskiego 3.

The Lewiatan arbitration moot takes a page from the simulated court case formula popular at Anglo-Saxon universities and law schools. It is the largest event of this kind in Poland. The trainee attorneys and trainee advocates participating in the competition are charged with pleading for the plaintiff or the defendant in a fictitious case, devising their case strategy, drafting pleadings and appearing at hearings. The moot court formula has demonstrated itself to be a valuable educational tool, not to mention a fun experience. The Lewiatan moot owes its inspiration to the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, the world’s largest event of this sort addressed to law students and staged in an international commercial arbitration scenario.
