Telewizja Polsat and Discovery put their internet joint venture on hold

Almost one year ago now, the European Commission referred the matter of the online television platform to the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. The broadcasters themselves seem to be in no hurry to make their decision (…)

“Once the European Commission accepts the competence of a national competition authority and refers a case for consideration by the latter, the ball is in the court of the enterprise concerned, which should now file for antitrust clearance with that national authority. As much follow from the applicable laws as well as from the attendant technicalities”, explains Bernadeta Kasztelan-Świetlik, former vice president of UOKiK now working with the GESSEL law firm, adding “it has been known to happen that, in the meantime, the enterprises change their business plans and elect to not follow through with the transaction” (…)
