GESSEL ranked second in the Mergermarket survey in terms of the number of Polish M&A transaction in the first half of 2020 !

Mergermarket has just published its round-up of legal services in the mergers and acquisitions market in the first half of 2020 for various jurisdictions, including Poland. The main take-away is that, while the coronavirus pandemic did not bring M&A activity to a standstill, it did slow things down a bit in Q1 2020, when the transactions were fewer in number (but greater in value). 

For our part, GESSEL had the pleasure of advising on five M&A deals in the first half of 2020, putting us in second place nationwide in terms of the number of executed transactions.

GESSEL supported the Enterprise Investors fund on its sale of the construction company Danwood S.A. to GS Engineering & Construction of South Korea (Transaction of the Year in the Polish Private Equity Association Awards 2020 – for more information about this transaction, please click HERE). We advised the Highlander Partners fund on divestment of a controlling stake in the Akomex Group, a cardboard packaging producer (as in the case of Danwood, our firm was involved in all successive stages of the investment; please see HERE), to its co-founder, managers, and a fund run by Mezzanine Management. We advised Anwim, operator of 250 Moya brand petrol stations, on acquisition of the eMila station network from BM Reflex (for details, see HERE). Polski Bank Komórek Macierzystych entrusted GESSEL with the legal aspects of further acquisitions – purchase of a controlling stake in Sorgente from its Italian owners (please see HERE) and of a 70% stake in the Turkish company Acıbadem, carved out from the Acıbadem Healthcare Group (… and HERE).
